Information Session for 2020 Programs - October 9th
Staff Spotlight - Alexa Weidanz
This month we are excited to feature Alexa, our Senior Program Associate! Alexa has been an inspiring and critical addition to the BroadFutures team. In addition to providing
overall support for the coordination and management of our programs, Alexa serves as a mentor to our interns.
When reflecting upon her time with BroadFutures, Alexa had this to say: Over these past two years at BroadFutures, I have acted as a mentor to over 30 young people in five different programs. Watching and participating in their growth has been so rewarding, and I am always thrilled to hear about the continued successes of our alumni. I also really enjoy being able to share ideas and strategies with other mentors and our team. BroadFutures's ability to build community amongst interns, employer partners, and staff is one of the program's greatest strengths!
We appreciate all the work you do! Thank you for passion and commitment to our mission Alexa!!!
Employer Spotlight - American Institutes for Research
Our Employer Spotlight for the month of September features
American Institutes for Research (AIR)! AIR is
one of the world's largest behavioral and social science research organizations, focused on using the best science available to help make the world a better place. AIR is proudly committed to fully integrating diversity and inclusion in their strategy, operations, and work environment.
When speaking about the internship program AIR puts on each summer, Taliba Boone, Recruiting Project Associate, commented: "One of the things about our internship program that stands out this year is our partnership with BroadFutures. This year we have Christian, and he's working in our IT department, and I must say that he has been getting great reviews. Diversity and inclusion is important, because it shows in the work that we do. You need people from diverse backgrounds who have diverse thoughts. It just makes the work stronger and makes organizations as a whole stronger."
We love how AIR makes diversity and inclusion a top priority. We are so grateful for our partnership! More information about AIR can be found here.
Intern Spotlight - Brad Veira
This month we are shining the intern spotlight on
Brad Veira! Brad recently graduated from Kipp DC and this fall he started at the University of the District of Colombia where he wants to major in mechanical engineering. His favorite class this semester is trigonometry.
Brad was an amazing addition to our summer 2019 cohort. He worked very hard interning for Southwest Business Improvement District (SWBID). He enjoyed his internship and really liked the opportunity to be exposed to a variety of tasks, one of his favorite being using the power washer! Brad reflected on his time with BroadFutures, saying he learned "
how to open up more and be more attentive."
We enjoyed getting to know you this summer, Brad, and we wish you the best of luck at UDC!
